Course Overview
In this class, we will look at the evolution of settlements and metropolitan areas throughout history as a way to help us to predict what cities may become in the future. Students will explore the many variables necessary in city planning, from housing and transportation to recreation. They will grapple with important questions related to infrastructure– like where does all of the trash go? Where does our water come from? Where does it go?
Each student will be creating their own designs for a city of the future. This course will require approximately 30-40 minutes of work outside of class time each week.
Student Outcomes:
- Identify and understand the many components of city planning
- Understand the history and progress of cities over time as a way to better predict the future
- Create a futuristic urban city plan, applying knowledge learned through research and design thinking
*This class requires 30 minutes of work outside of class time each week.
