Course Overview
In this class, we will look at the evolution of settlements and metropolitan areas throughout history as a way to help us to predict what cities may become in the future. Students will explore the many variables necessary in city planning, from housing and transportation to recreation. They will grapple with important questions related to infrastructure– like where does all of the trash go? Where does our water come from? Where does it go?
Each student will be creating their own designs for a city of the future.

- Identify and understand the many components of city planning
- Understand the history and progress of cities over time as a way to better predict the future
- Create a futuristic urban city plan, applying knowledge learned through research and design thinking

Your Teacher: Katie Kelly
Katie Kelly has worked as a teacher and educational consultant for over 15 years in independent and public schools, including 7 years at the Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA. She received her Master’s in Elementary Education at USC Rossier School of Education with a Certification in Gifted Education . She has continued to be passionate about politics surrounding gifted education and the challenges of meeting the needs of gifted learners, and is currently the Director of Learning at Cresconova.
