Course Overview

The world around us is a miracle of technology. Spaceships, quantum computers, nuclear power plants, artificial intelligence, robots, smartphones - day by day, everything seems to be getting more and more high-tech! But how did people in the ancient world not only survive, but thrive without these incredible inventions? And how were we able to develop them in the first place?

In this course we will be taking a trip back in time to meet some of the most notable civilisations in our planet's history, and learning how their discoveries led directly to the developments of the present day. We will visit a different civilisation in each lesson and draw direct comparison to modern civilisations and technologies.

Student Outcomes:

  • To learn about the simple principles behind complex modern technology.
  • To draw a parallel between ancient tools and machines and their modern counterparts.
  • To investigate the lives of prominent ancient scientists, inventors and engineers.
