Course Overview

Have you ever unscrewed just one lightbulb in a string of lights and noticed how the entire string of lights went out?

This course is designed to be an introduction into systems thinking. Whether examining a click-pen or analyzing the system of the ocean and how it is a critical part of many other systems on land, students will gain practice in seeing the bigger picture of how systems are interrelated. In addition, students will see how a small impact, like a small twist of a lightbulb, can make a big difference through the actions that they take.

Student Outcomes:

  • Begin to understand and identify systems that exist in their day-to-day lives, and how to positively impact a system
  • Practice parts of the design thinking practice
  • Use active listening and teamwork skills to collaborate about ideas with peers in order to produce a solution to a problem
