A Bay Area native, Marissa's teaching career started when she taught science through the Peninsula Bridge Summer Program for underserved Bay Area youth. She then went global, teaching English in Italy, then moving to Uganda to work for a nonprofit that prevents violence against children in schools. Upon returning to the states, Marissa spent three years in the Innovative Teaching Program at The Nueva School, teaching kindergarten, third grade, and middle school math.

She currently is a third grade STEM teacher at Alta Vista School in San Francisco, and loves having constant opportunities for innovation, investigation, and iteration! Marissa has a BS in Child Development from Tufts University, an MA in Curriculum & Instruction from University of the Pacific, and a multiple subject CA teaching credential.

When you aren’t teaching, how do you like to spend your time?

When I’m not teaching, I love to do yoga, rock climb, read, and cook new recipes!

What was a favorite recent book that you read?

A book I read recently and loved is 'The Misadventures of the Family Fletcher' by Dana Alison Levy.
