Course Overview
This summer, the Olympics are back! Welcome to "Beyond the Rings" – an inspiring journey that combines history, sportsmanship, and culture! This course is designed for learners who are curious to discover the magic behind the world's greatest sporting event. How have they changed from ancient times? How do they continue to change? Each day we will cover a different element of the Olympics including: how the Games have evolved into the global celebration we know today, Olympic symbols and traditions, Olympism, and more. Are you ready for your Olympic adventure?
Student Outcomes:
- Gain appreciation for the values many Olympic athletes share such as: grit, loyalty, humility, and explore how these principles extend beyond the sports arena into their daily lives
- Discover traditions, music, and art from different countries, fostering an appreciation for global diversity
- Analyze different changes that the games have gone through and discuss potential future considerations
Your Teacher: Sarah Merkt
Sarah Merkt has worked as a teacher and curriculum designer for over 12 years in gifted schools in both Asia and America. She holds her certification in Middle Childhood Education from Xavier University. Most recently, she worked for 4 years at The Nueva School in Hillsborough, CA. She is a passionate advocate for gifted students and their parents and strives to infuse best practices into her curriculum in the classroom. She currently serves as Program Manager and Learning Consultant at Cresconova.
